Vacuum insulation – the construction industry's future insulation material? (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The focus of this study is to examine the properties and potentials of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) within the construction industry. Hence, a study on VIPs has been conducted to examine pros and cons of implementing such material and whether it can replace mineral wool. The lifespan of VIPs are approximately 30 - 50 years and the product has excellent thermal insulation properties, allowing for thinner walls. Despite these advantages, the product is prefabricated, which reduces flexibility during installation. Additionally, VIPs require cautious handling and demand high costs. Several examples of applications of VIPS in various building components have also been examined. Current challenges with VIPs make it difficult to compete with mineral wool. The potential of VIPs remains but to achieve a breakthrough, it requires several research efforts to make the product more affordable and easier method for installation.
