Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to investigate how municipalities can work to promote physical activity through urban planning. First, a literature review was conducted to obtain an overview of the current state of research. Then, a case study was conducted with Södertälje municipality as the study object to answer the study's questions. This consisted of a document study where two strategic documents, the Bicycle Plan and the Green Strategy, were examined, and an interview study where three officials from Södertälje municipality were interviewed. The results showed that the main methods Södertälje municipality is working with are expanding pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, creating access to green areas, and creating access to fitness facilities. This corresponded to the methods identified in the literature review.
