Innovative method for repairing concrete columns under bridges (engelsk)
Abstract [en]
Corrosion and frost damage to concrete columns under bridges present a severe issue in our society, leading to costly repairs and compromised safety. The constant exposure to de-icing salts during the winter season and environmental factors render these damages inevitable and difficult to predict. Finding sustainable and practical solutions to prevent these damages is paramount for ensuring infrastructure integrity and minimizing economic losses.
This report explores and analyzes an innovative method for repairing concrete columns under bridges. The study is grounded in the challenges concrete columns face in road environments, particularly from de-icing salts that cause corrosion and frost damage. Traditional methods have proven to be costly and time-consuming, necessitating the exploration of new solutions.
This study aims to investigate the efficacy of a repair method that includes applying frost-resistant concrete and installing crack-distributing reinforcement. Through literature reviews, expert interviews, and a case study of the Islingby bridge in Borlänge, the method's practical application, durability, and economic benefits are evaluated in comparison to traditional practices.
The results indicate that the proposed method offers significant advantages, including reduced risk of future damage and lower costs. The analysis of expert interviews and the specific case study provide a deeper understanding of the method's potential and limitations. The conclusions suggest that the new method could be a sustainable solution for future repairs of concrete columns under bridges; however, ongoing research and practical testing are recommended to ensure its long-term effectiveness.
This report contributes valuable knowledge to the construction industry and may inspire further development of efficient repair methods that enhance the longevity and safety of bridge structures in vulnerable environments.
