Abstract [en]

For a long time the Chinese television industry has been dominated by the state, and government regulations strongly block the path to carry out real industrialization of the sector. Independent television industry emerged in the late 1990s, which brought incentives to program trade and facilitated the market reconstruction. Innovation and professionalization was stimulated since the broadcasting system gets separated with production, thousands of independent television companies are looking for market opportunities and various kinds of business relations are encouraged to arise. This paper aims to investigate the business relations involved in operating independent television production companies. This is done by conducting qualitative research study, including theory reviews, interviews and case study. The results from my research clarify the current business relations involved in operating independent television companies and provide insights on several processes that can be innovated. The major contribution of my work is to investigate business relations along the sequential processes that a TV program is practicably operating in, and implement my discussion into innovations that can be conducted in every business relation. This paper will help independent television companies to find long-term, feasible and sustainable approaches in operating business relations.
