Komplicera stadslandskapet

Complicating the urban landscape (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The thesis is an attempt to work with the concepts diversity and complexity as urban planning concepts. I have chosen an area of investigation with properties typical for the peripheral part of the city of Stockholm, which is a heterogeneous and mixed urban environment. For the area of investigation I have worked with a description of the current situation to understand how it is built up and works today. With that material as a starting point I have then tried to speculate about a development with diversity and complexity as important criteria. Something that is characteristic for the area of investigation is a clear division between areas with different function,  that is an industrial area, a small house area and a multi-family housing area. Something that I realized is that complexity and diversity means different things in the different sub-areas because of their different character. My work has resulted in three parallel development-studies, one for each sub-area of the area of investigation. What I see as my prime finding is a potential for interesting urban environments rich in content that has been created by planning norms of the 20th century. Based in my work I mean that this could be urban environments with place for a wide spectrum of functions, activities and people.
