Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Architecture has a large part in determining people's behavior and actions. The physical design can control the extent to which a person is an individual or as a member of a group . If one is superior or subordinate. If one can act freely, making their own decisions or passively obey a predetermined pattern . Architecture can create power relations and hierarchies and control patterns that defines people's social status.

Through studies of prisons and classical architectural icons, with a clear intention to demonstrate the power, have I created a fictional block in a fictional city. Where I through a number of buildings  intended to illustrate and clarify the many architectural structures and strategies that creates power relations; buildings present in our everyday lives, but that might not be associated with the hierarchy order.

This is to critically examine and to clarify the role of architecture as well as the architect’s role in the shaping of people’s behavior and social status .
