Textile Translations  of the Ordinary

Abstract [en]

Through a full scale installation, this project explores translations of ordinary architectural elements by imitating and distorting them. Fragments of a doorframe, two corners, a windowsill and a baseboard spread out, indicating the ordinary room, like traces in a ruin. The translations take place mainly as hard-made fabric while textiles pleat, wrinkle, swell and unfold along the rigid.

The installation deals with unexpected material behaviour, ordinariness, materiality and legibility. The legibility can be referred to both regarding the room as whole and regarding the pieces of element and textile surface put together. The legibility is discussed regarding the figurative versus the figural qualities.
