Abstract [en]

Each year every person in Sweden throws away more than 100 kg of food. Could food waste somehow inform architecture? Two of the most binned products, milk and potatoes are sources of bioplastic. The properties of these polymeric materials were studied through stretching, which makes the sticky polymers go structural. Different morphologies were identified. The findings were projected on an example building, a soup restaurant, and were evaluated by speculating about the effect on architectural aspects of openings, spatialities and light. Limitations and possibilities regarding construction were also addressed. By reformulating the otherwise stacked waste into something transparent and public, the issue of food waste is highlighted.
