Abstract [en]

Flight planning optimization provides airlines with a great opportunity for cost reduction by enabling them to determine the optimal route, altitudes, speeds, and amount of fuel to load on an airplane. Over time, small adjustments to each flight plan can add up to substantial savings across a fleet. As such, an optimization tool capable of meeting such needs would be of great benefit to a manufacturer like Airbus to be able to maintain its predominance in the aeronautics industry and even gain new markets.

This internship aims at assessing the feasibility of implementation of a two-dimensional flight planning capability integrating realistic atmospheric and navigation data. The tool should allow for the addition of new constraints to make the flight path more realistic in regards to Air Traffic Control (ATC) procedures.
