Abstract [en]

The main aim of the project was to identify certain key moments in the development of the modern Stockholm and investigate what alternative routes could have been taken - and what impact this would have had on the city. The result of the research is presented in the form of a parallel narrative for the development of the city, culminating in a representation of this alternative version of Stockholm set in present time. The project should be seen as a fictional story about the city that never was - a “what if?” - but also as a platform for discussing and exhibiting unbuilt projects in a more fruitful way. The project is research-based, and the design part consists mainly of a curated assemblage of selected projects, reconstructed from archival material. Although, since the chosen projects overlap with each other as well as cause glitches in their interaction with the current urban fabric, the unbuilt projects as well as the existing infrastructure has been subject to careful alterations in order to construct a coherent whole.
