Abstract [en]

An hour northwest of Tromsø in Northern Norway lays Vengsøya. An island at the end of the fjords with the ocean as it’s closest neighbour. Vengsøya is an old fishing community who have always been depending on the ocean as livelihood. The existence of the community of the island is under a constant threat of being shut down due to a lack of people settling there, the urban movement slowly draining it of life.  The thesis explores the life of the island and it’s habitants today. Can architecture help create something that makes a difference for the people living at the island today? Could it make people stay instead of moving to the bigger towns, or even attract new ones?
