The Archipelago as a Support System

Abstract [en]

The Luleå archipelago is in the northernmost part of the Bothnian Gulf. The landscape is shaped by the separation of islands but changes with the seasons - during winter you can drive and walk between the islands, during summer you can go by boat, but during autumn and spring the ice neither holds nor breaks. The archipelago becomes inaccessible to people of the mainland, and isolates people living on the islands. The population drops every year.    To keep the archipelago alive, I choose to see the archipelago as a system of connections rather than inaccessible, separating, and isolating. I propose a support system consisting of a network of cabin-type buildings.
