Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The 30th of November 1977 was a day in the peaceful area of Tuve in Gothenburg that wouldnever be the same again. Shortly after 4.p.m. the unthinkable happened, the ground opened likethe devil´s sinkhole and in just a few minutes the houses were crushed along with streets witharea as large as 37 football pitches. The foundation of the house is tasked to support the house and it has to be sturdy enough tocarry the weight of the house. There are different types of foundation methods but we will onlyfocus in this essay on slab on ground, suspended foundation and ground basement. We will in this essay report on the different methods, see which of these methods is the mostcommon in Stockholm, what to do to avoid the occurrence of radon in the foundation floor, and we want to see if there is any difference in construction here in Stockholm and other city’sin Sweden. The information we have gathered are through interviews with people that have experiencewith the subject. We have immersed us with different types of books that is relevant to thesubject through KTH:s library and we have visited different websites that offers greatinformation on the topic. When constructing the ground of the houses here in Stockholm slab on ground is the mostcommon here.
