The project aims to deal with very current idea of flexibility of a building, merging it with contextual influences which aim to produce a project generic in programme and specific to the site at the same time. It is located above the railway tracks in Södermalm, on the verge of the city and landscape and railway infrastructure. The programmatic and contextual duality finds its reference in the idea of Janus - deity in Roman mythology representing ideas of duality and transition. In order to place a flexible structure in context, a figure of the building is found which refers to its immediate context, as well references found in the context of whole city. This figure is expressed through strong, concrete structure bridging above the tracks. The plan is based on a grid which dictates dimensions of the plan. Within this grid, timber infill is placed defining the internal resolution. While the facade facing the urban tissue has an expressive, urban character, the facade towards the landscape has much stronger and straightforward apperance, with deck access balconies and plant pots along them creating longitudinal, hanging gardens, both sheltering the building from the tracks and opening towards the landscape.
