Abstract [en]
How can the agricultural landscape of Bjärehalvön become more resilient? How could the local community find value and become stronger through engaging in the investigation of an answer?
It is not the physical distance between urban and rural that matters in Bjärehalvön; life takes place right around the fields. Instead, it is the absence of relation to them. Until just a few years ago, farmers employed youths during the summers. However, the industry has been revised; seasons are extended, the work is intensified and the workforce supply has changed. Having no experience working with the landscape inevitably leads to no particular understanding of it. Vegalt stories is an educational farm working as a meeting place aimed at the local population. To make it a vital part of daily life but also to ensure that the site functions it will be run in cooperation with all municipal schools, from the first year to the adult gardening school. Furthermore, the site should work as a tool to test, develop and evaluate new cultivation methods that we can rely on in the future.
This project explores how new narratives could emerge from questioning and challenging conventional methods of agriculture and architecture. It should show that there are possibilities transcending the standard solutions proposed.
