Gillberga Astronomy Center is a center for astronomy lovers and those who are curious about the subject. Astronomy, as a subject, fits very well with the area because it is further away from a larger populated area. Eskilstuna as a municipality then, has a much larger proportion of places that have less light pollution compared to other places in Sweden that have a large proportion of population, for example as Stockholm municipality. This creates an attractive place for the public who are interested in astronomy and the place also has the potential to attract people outside Eskilstuna.

The building was developed so that it would be an experience for visitors. The various passages are there so that the people are drawn in by the building and its subject. The roof, in large parts of the building, is open to the sky, so that during the night visitors can really feel close to the sky and take part in what is astronomy. At the heart of the center is an observation terrace, where telescopes of various degrees can be used by visitors and create an even closer relationship to what is astronomy.

Gillberga Astronomi Center är ett centrum för astronomi älskare samt de nyfikna på ämnet. Astronomi som ämne passar väldigt bra till stadsdelen eftersom den ligger längre bort från större stadsdelar. Eskilstuna som kommun då, har mycket större andel platser som har mindre ljus förorening jämfört med andra platser i Sverige som har en stor andel befolkning, exempelvis som Stockholms kommun. Därmed skapas ett attraktiv plats för allmänheten som är intresserade av astronomi och platsen har även potential till att även attrahera personer utanför Eskilstuna området.

Byggnadens utvecklades så att det skulle vara ett erfarenhet för besökarna. De olika passager och vägar finns så att personerna dras in av byggnaden och dess ämne. Där taket är i stora andelar av byggnaden är öppet mot himlen, så att under natten besökarna kan verkligen känna sig nära himlen och ta del av det som är astronomi. Längst innerst i centret ligger ett observations gård, där teleskop av olika grader kan användas av besökarna och skapar ett ännu närmare relation till det som är astronomi.
