Harg – a transformation of lost land (English)
Abstract [en]

At the site of a former stainless steel industry, this proposal is an investigation of how polluted industrial land can be reevaluated and transformed. Previously fenced off, encapsulated grounds are opened to the public, turned into flower meadows and restored through phytoremediation. Plant matter is turned into building materials and building modules, and a process of recycling heavy metals through plant matter via hydrometallurgy is initiated. The project is shaped by sustainable, diversified and predominantly local materials, and enables habitats to reform. It explores a borderland between environmental efforts, agriculture, industrial production, research and the social aspects of these issues. Through this investigation, land is reclaimed by flora, fauna, and the local community.
