Järna är en tätort i Södertälje kommun med närmare 7000 invånare, som tillsammans med sin intilliggande landsbygd blivit framstående inom produktion av livsmedel. Förslaget innefattar att skapa en ny mötesplats för orten, som också kan verka som ett forum för hållbar matproduktion och konsumtion, vilket är en viktig fråga för den lokala näringen. Tomten ligger sydväst om tätorten, i området Mora. Dess placering utgör en potentiell länk mellan Järna och dess kringliggande byar. Med fokus både på arbete och rekreation, innefattar programmet odlingsverksamhet och ett kökslabb med tillhörande residens för kockar och odlare, som tillsammans med en publik del ger möjlighet både till arbete, utbildning och konsumtion av den lokala råvaran.

Förslaget undersöker ladan som offentlig typologi, en stark symbol för jordbruk och landsbygd. Samtidigt, är det en byggnadstyp vars ursprungliga funktion allt mer tynar bort och som idag ofta står tom. Vittnar ladan om en tid som är förbi? Eller kan denna få en ny relevans med ett nytt innehåll? Under ladans långsträckta sadeltak sker en dekonstruktion där fragment av byggnadens innehåll distribueras ut i fältet och skapar en diversitet av rum mellan de olika byggnadskropparna. Samtidigt bildas öppna publika rum inne i den annars slutna ladustrukturen. I direkt relation till byggnaderna börjar odlingen. Det öppna landskapet med sina långa siktlinjer gör byggnaderna synliga redan på långt håll, där de ligger omslutna av åkermark, som en kärna i odlingslandskapet.

The proposal examines the barn as a public typology, a strong symbol of agriculture and the countryside. At the same time, it is a building type whose original function is increasingly fading and which today is often left empty.Does the barn testify to a time that has passed? Or can this get a new relevance with a new content?Under the barn's elongated gable roof, a deconstruction takes place where fragments of the building's contents are distributed in the field and create a diversity of spaces between the different buildings. At the same time, open public spaces are formed inside the otherwise closed structure of the barn.In direct relation to the buildings, cultivation begins. The open landscape makes the buildings visible already in the distance, as they lay surrounded by arable land, like a core in the agricultural landscape.
