Strax söder om Järna i en liten ort Hölö ligger Halmstrået som ett hus för folket, av folket. Idéen har sin grund från det lokala intresset för det hantverksmässiga, att jobba med händerna. Genom att ge möjlighet för invånarna att aktivt delta i framtagandet av byggnaden, skulle det kunna leda till ett starkare band sinsemellan och en ny stolthet för Hölö. Byggnadens produktion handlar initialt om ett upprättande av byggnaden som senare transformeras om till en öppen träverkstad för självbyggeri samt ett maker space med fokus på återanvändning av restprodukter från den större produktionen. Här finns plats för allt från storskaliga husbyggen till restaurering av sin gamla favoritmöbel. Konceptet har hämtat inspiration från Egnahemsfabriken som bygger på ett gemensamt byggande och spridande av kunskap, tillsammans skapar vi. Med en öppen och inkluderande modell skulle det på sikt kunna stärka den sociala hållbarheten för byn.Byggnadens övergripande gestalt har tagit form från en X och Y-axel, där respektive axel innefattar ett av de två huvudprogrammen, produktion möter kultur, kultur möter produktion. Namnet Halmstrået har byggnaden fått efter väggarna på markplan som isolerats med just halm och som valts att lämnas synlig genom den transparenta fasaden för att koppla till platsens omgivning. För att skapa en mer human byggnad och som i största möjliga mån ska byggas för hand med hjälp från byns invånare är stommen dimensionerad kring den största standardstorleken för trävirke 45x295x4800mm och genomsyrar hela byggnaden. Vidare har övriga byggnadsmått förhållit sig till CC60 för att minimera kapning av skivmaterial och minska spill. Konstruktionen vilar på en platta på mark som terraserar i tre olika nivåer och följer platsens naturliga topografi.

By giving the people who live here the opportunity to participate in the development of the building, it could lead to a stronger bond among themselves and a new pride for Hölö.The building's production is initially about the establishment of the building which is later transformed into an open wood workshop for self-construction and a maker space with a focus on reuse of residual products from the larger production. There is room for everything from large-scale house construction to the restoration of your old favorite piece of furniture.
