Abstract [en]
Järna, with it’s strong historic connections to farming, and deeply rooted identity in ecology and solidarity, poses a challenging question of issue. How do we as architects ensure that the community of Järna and Ytterjärna identify with, apperciate, and most importantly find usage in a large 4000 sqm community house? And how would we respectfully take a considerable portion of land to densify and interupt a small-scale suburban grid - while caring for the environment? Upholding the integrity of Järna with a minimal ecological footprint, this project is the result of reuse instead of building new. Ytterjärna is full of beautiful landscapes, arable land, and if you look really closely - beautiful hidden gems in the form of abandoned farms. Farsta Manor is such, in need of rejuvenation, care, and recognition. To ensure a both economically and environmentally sustainable development, the project is devided into three phases stretching over a period of 10 years. Farsta Manor is a community house, a space for social gatherings, a learning hub, and a farm inviting both locals and visitors wishing to get a taste of Järna. The concept of”Slow Food” permeates the project which operates as a flexible, small-scale alternative to Saltå Kvarn.
