In recent decades, the construction industry has begun to put emphasis on making the right choice of materials and development of how technology that brings climate-safe and resource-efficient solutions. Composite construction has gained much attention in the world for its ability to utilize multiple material's advantages while compensating each other's disadvantages, for example, improved fire resistance of composite steel and concrete columns is mentioned. Use of this design solution is less in Sweden and this report places emphasis on initiatives to increase attention of this application in Sweden. The report starts with mentioning basic information about composite columns, finally presenting a calculation program with Excel that easily and quickly designs composite columns in room temperature and at elevated temperature. Obtained calculation program has been verified using the advanced calculation software FEM-Design to ensure accuracy of resulting output, further checking its applicability under different conditions by applying three test cases with different input data. Prepared Excel templates can be handled smoothly and are visually easy to understand, moreover output data correspond with output data from advanced calculation programs, however only in case of design at room temperature why the application of the template in case of design against fire and accidental load should wait until an in-depth study is carrying out.
