Abstract [en]

Mips is a growing, ingredient brand that develops security systems for helmets. Their continuous growth has led to the need to define the Innovation Management and Product Development processes. Mips sustainability work is also being prioritized and therefore, the R&D department has assigned the authors of this thesis with developing a framework that would add sustainability aspects to the new process.

The Design Thinking method has been applied to this thesis and therefore, the thesis work was approached as a product development process. The Empathise phase was done first to gather information on current practices, and later define their needs and requirements during the Define phase. The Ideate phase followed where the concepts were iterated and developed based on the requirements previously defined as well as literature.

The result of this thesis is a framework that adds sustainability aspects as steps to be added to their current Innovation Management and Product Development process. Further, several templates were developed as a suggestion on how working documents could look like would Mips choose to apply our framework to their new process. Some of these templates were applied by Mips already during the course of the thesis.

Mips är ett växande ingrediensvarumärke som utvecklar säkerhetssystem för hjälmar. Deras kontinuerliga tillväxt har lett till behovet av att definiera innovationslednings- och produktutvecklingsprocesser. Mips har ett stort fokus på att arbeta hållbart och därav har deras forsknings- och utvecklingsavdelning bett författarna av denna uppsats att utveckla ett ramverk för att lägga till hållbarhetsaspekter till den nya processen.

Design Thinking metoden har tillämpats på arbetet och därför var tillvägagångsättet av arbetet som en produktutvecklingsprocess. Under Empathize-fasen samlades information angående nuvarande tillämpningar och därefter definierades behoven och kraven under Define-fasen. Därefter togs ett koncept fram med hjälp av de tidigare satta kraven och relevant litteratur.

Resultatet av arbetet är ett ramverk som lägger till hållbarhetsaspekter i den nya innovationsledning och produktvecklingsprocessen. Vidare så togs flera mallar fram som ett förslag för hur arbetsdokumenten skulle kunna se ut ifall Mips skulle vilja tillämpa ramverket i deras nya process. Några mallar har redan blivit tillämpade av Mips under arbetets gång.
