Abstract [en]

This study is based on a hypothesis from Delta Akustik AB regarding standing waves in slotted panels and the requisite for measurement data regarding its sound absorption. The purpose is to acquire measurement data and to examine three types of slotted panels and the possibility of a standing wave vertically in the boards. The study was made according to the standard Acoustics - Measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room (ISO 354:2003) where reverberation times were measured in an empty room and with test speciment inside. Thereafter the sound absorption and its absorption coefficient was calculated in 1⁄3 octave band in the frequency range of 50-5000 Hz. Three different types of slotted panels were constructed with varying slat widths in order to compare their efficiency and potential standing wave in the material. The absorption coefficient for all three slotted panels display good absorption numbers in the theoretical resonance frequencies for the helmholtz interval, which confirms the slatted panels as a helmholtz resonator. Finally, the result demonstrates no correlation between slatwidth and standing waves but further experimentation could be of interest to be able to exclude the possibility of apparent standing waves vertically through the slat material.
