En Utforskning av att Använda Japansk Onomatopoeia för Ljudvisualisering i Museimiljöer för att Förbättra Ljudmedvetenhet och Ljudförståelse (Swedish)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Increased availability of technology such as augmented reality (AR) provides opportunities for museums to explore alternative interactions for education and increased accessibility. This study explores the visualization of environmental sounds in museums to increase sound awareness and enhance the museum experience. The visualization design uses Japanese onomatopoeia as a basis for this purpose. A museum environment was created in virtual reality (VR) as a proof-of-concept. Four sound sources were placed in the environment and visualized. Seven participants (6 natives and 1 high-proficiency speaker) explored the VR museum freely and provided feedback through a questionnaire. Results indicate support for sound visualization in museum environments. Results also suggest that the visualization helps to aid in sound awareness and sound localization but not necessarily sound comprehension and that the use of onomatopoeia is promising but limited.
