En förändring i våra konsumtionsmönster är av stor vikt då resultatet av vår mest dominanta ekonomimodell, linjärekonomi överstiger planetens regenerativa kapacitet. Denna studie syftar till att bedöma tillgänglig litteratur för att kunna avgöra om delningsekonomin presenterar ett mer hållbart alternativ till den för närvarande dominanta linjära ekonomin. Studien görs från både ekologiska och ekonomiska perspektiv genom en översikt av litteraturen från Digitala Vetenskapliga Arkivet. Studierna kategoriseras utifrån om deras resultat visar positiv, negativ eller neutral, hållbar påverkan när det gäller övergången till delningsekonomi.  

Resultatet visar en stor del positiva resultat över de granskade studierna, vilket indikerar de möjliga fördelarna med att övergå från linjär ekonomi till delningsekonomi. När litteraturen visar ett positivt resultat är det för att man har lyckats minska behovet av att köpa produkter för att istället hyra eller låna samma produkt, vilket inneburit att den total konsumtionen minskat. De artiklar som visar ett negativt resultat har skapat ytterligare möjligheter för konsumtion vilket istället vilket leder till större nyttjande av resurser. Resultatet av denna studie visar att vi bör fortsätta skifta mot delningsekonomi som ett medel för att förbättra de hållbarhetsutmaningar vi står inför.  

The importance for a shift in consumption patterns is increasingly evident as our current linear economy model exceeds the planet’s regenerative capacity. This study aims to critically assess the literature to be able to determine whether the sharing economy presents a more sustainable alternative to the currently dominant linear economy. The study is made from both ecological and economical perspectives and a review of literature sourced from digital scientific archive is conducted. The studies are categorized based on their findings and weather they show a positive, negative or neutral outcome regarding the transition into a sharing economy.  

The findings reveal a dominant trend of positive results across the reviewed studies, indicating the potential benefits of transitioning from a linear to sharing economy. When the literature shows a positive result, it is because the need to buy products has been successfully reduced, allowing the same product to be rented or borrowed instead. The articles that show a negative result have created further opportunities for consumption instead, which leads to greater use of resources. The result of this study show that we should continue the shift towards the sharing economy model as a mean to address the environmental challenges in our society.
