Abstract [sv]

Träkonstruktioner blir alltmer attraktiva till följd av ökade klimatförändringar. Materialet har stor styrka i relation till sin egentyngd vilket ofta medför lätta konstruktioner. Ur ett dynamiskt perspektiv kan detta innebära utmaningar vid dimensionering av gång- och cykelbroar (GC-broar) i trä. Dessutom är trä ett anisotropt material med varierande egenskaper, vilket ytterligare bidrar till komplexiteten att korrekt modellera vid numeriska analyser.I detta examensarbete studeras pålgruppernas inverkan på de dynamiska egenskaperna hos en GC-bro i trä vid numeriska analyser med finita element (FE). Studien syftar till att undersöka vilka skillnader olika FE-modelleringstekniker genererar. Jordparametrarnas inverkan på pålgrundläggningens styvhet samt brons dynamiska egenskaper lyfts också fram. Examensarbetet är uppdelat i två delstudier för att särskilja analyser av en pålgrupp och hela bron.I delstudie 1 analyserades en enskild pålgrupp. Statiska och dynamiska analyser utfördes på tre olika modeller med varierande elementtyper på pålgruppen och den omgivande jorden (balk/solid/fjäder). Varje modell testades med en styv och en mindre styv jord för att analysera dess inverkan.I delstudie 2 studerades pålgruppernas inverkan på det dynamiska beteendet i en GC-bro i trä. Utifrån resultaten i delstudie 1 valdes två olika modelleringstekniker ut och analyserades. Vidare utfördes en parametrisk studie kring jordegenskaperna. Resultaten jämfördes mot experimentella resultat, framtagna genom in situ-tester utförda i ett pågående forskningsprojekt på KTH.Studien pekar på att modelleringsteknikerna har en viss inverkan på en enskild pålgrupps styvhet. Skillnaderna tenderar att öka med styvare jord. Vidare uppstår inga betydande dynamiska effekter i pålgruppen mellan 0–5 Hz. Delstudie 2 visar att modelleringstekniken av pålgrupperna genererar en försumbar skillnad på brons dynamiska egenskaper. Jordparametrarna är av större vikt i vissa fall, både för brons egenfrekvenser och accelerationer.

Abstract [en]

As a result of increased climate change, timber and wood-based products are becoming increasingly attractive to use as a structural material. The material has great strength in relation to its self-weight, which often results in lightweight structures. From a dynamic perspective, this can pose a challenge when designing wooden pedestrian bridges. In addition, wood is an anisotropic material with varying mechanical properties, which further contributes to the complexity of creating an accurate model for numerical analyses.In this bachelor’s thesis, the impact of the pile groups on the dynamic properties of a pedestrian timber bridge is studied in numerical analyses using FE software. The aim is to find out what variations different modelling techniques generate on the dynamic responses of a pedestrian bridge. The impact of soil parameters on a single pile group and a bridge is also highlighted. The thesis is divided in to two sub-studies to distinguish analyses of a single pile group and the entire bridge.In sub-study 1, an individual pile group was analyzed. Static and dynamic analyses were performed on three different models with varying element types (beam/solid/spring). Each model was tested with two different soil stiffnesses to analyze its impact.In sub-study 2, the impact of the pile groups on the dynamic behavior of a pedestrian bridge in wood was studied. Based on the results in sub-study 1, two different modelling techniques were selected and analyzed. Furthermore, a parametric study was performed on the soil properties. The results were compared with experimental results, produced through in situ measurements which were carried out in an ongoing research project at KTH.The study indicates that the modelling techniques have a certain impact on the stiffness of an individual pile group. The differences tend to increase in soils with higher stiffness. Furthermore, no significant dynamic effects occur in the pile group between frequencies of 0-5 Hz. Sub-study 2 shows that the modeling technique of the pile groups generates a negligible difference in the dynamic properties of the bridge. In some cases, the soil parameters are of greater importance for the natural frequencies and the acceleration responses on the bridge.
