In July 1974, Swedish State Railways’ notified Section 1050 of the Swedish National Union of State Employees that they had decided to install a computer-aided planning system at one of their workshops. It provoked strong union protests. Under the slogan “we refuse to be micromanaged”, the union stopped the planned computer system. The event would be the start of multi-year union protests and debates around computerisation, where knowledge and education were shaped as a risk-free solution for all parties.
