Abstract [en]
"Stories of Statt" explores the typology of the Stadshotell, focusing on the Stadshotell in Luleå, a medium-sized industrial city in northern Sweden. Divided into two parts, the project first offers a portrait of the Luleå Stadshotell, examining its historical and cultural significance through a variety of sources including personal interviews, architectural drawings, newspaper articles and social media. This portrait, presented in a comic book format and accompanying short film, reveals the hotel's multifaceted role as a crucial gathering place, despite its evolving ownership and identity.
The second part, a speculative fiction, envisions the rehabilitation of parts of the block. Inspired by local cultural initiatives and municipal studies on preserving cultural heritage, the project proposes repurposing the building to house a Crafts, Form, and Design Center. This narrative reimagines the hotel as a vibrant cultural space, promoting intergenerational and cross-cultural interactions. The design integrates small architectural interventions to enhance the building's historical features while creating new public spaces. In conclusion, the project aims to restore the Stadshotell's cultural relevance and reinforce its identity as a cornerstone of Luleå's community and heritage.
