Hållbara flygbränslen, bränslet för framtiden? (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

The aviation industry allows for rapid transportation of people and goods but is contributing to global warming and anthropological effects of the atmosphere. While Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) have been proposed to be a pathway for the aviation industry in addressing its fossil carbon emissions, the other effects such as high altitude effect with contrails and chemical processes which have been indicated to have significant effect on the climate are not spoken about in the context of SAF. To this end, this study has investigated scenarios where SAF has been implemented and where various metrics have been displayed to give indication on the effects which SAF could have. The scenarios indicate that depending on the definition of emissions, the short- and long-term effects of emissions can be considered to different extents and that solely pursuing SAF as a pathway for the aviation industry could only have limited effect on the wide range of emissions which the industry causes. These findings are intended to stimulate discussion among industry stakeholders and policy makers, while also prompting further research into sustainability of the aviation industry.
