Organisationer blir mer och mer datadrivna, vilket leder till ett behov av bättre datahantering. Uppkomsten av data mesh, ett socio-tekniskt decentraliserat tillvägagångssätt, innebär en ny möjlighet för organisationer att hantera data på ett nytt sätt. Data mesh inkluderar- användningen av dataprodukter, som möjliggör paketering and tillhandahållande av datatill data konsumenter. Denna avhandling undersöker implementeringen av data mesh inom en finansiell organisation, med fokus på produktutveckling av dataprodukter. Genom att kombinera teori om data mesh och produktutveckling tillsammans med en fallstudie utförd i en finansiell organisation, kompletterad med branschintervjuer, identifieras krav, utmaningar- samt nuvarande och potentiella framtida tillvägagångssätt. Den här studien undersöker forsksningsgapet som industrin uttrycker när det gäller praktisk tillämpning av data mesh-teori, som även uttrycks av luckor i litteraturen relaterat till implementering av teorin, särskilt relaterat till produktutveckling. En rekommendation gällande produktutveckling av dataprodukter inom en organisation i liknande kontext som fallstudieföretaget presenteras, med fokus på nya nödvändiga steg som behövs utföras före och under produktutvecklingsprocessen.

Abstract [en]

As organizations become more and more data driven, a need for better data management has surfaced. The emergence of data mesh, socio-technical and decentralized approach, provided an option to handle data management inside organizations. The data mesh approach includes the use of data products, a product that allows for packaging and provisioning o fdata. This thesis investigates the implementation of data mesh inside a financial organization, exploring the product development of data products. By combining data mesh theory and product development theory together with a case study performed in a financial organization, supplemented with industry interviews, requirements, challenges, as well as present and potential future practices are extracted. The study highlights the gap expressed by the industry of practical application of data mesh theory, as there exists gaps in the literature addressing implementations of the theory, especially related to product development. A recommendation for how to approach an implementation of data mesh within an organization existing in similar context as the case company is provided, highlighting necessary new steps to be performed before and during the product development process.
