Integration of production skills and production aspects in product development within the motor vehicle industry : A study in how production aspects and production skills are integrated in the product development process (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Industrial companies in the motor vehicle industry often invest large amounts of capital in product development to be able to produce products of high quality and quantity. This means that production and the knowledge surrounding it are very important for companies, especially when developing new products. The purpose of this study is to investigate how industrial companies in the motor vehicle industry integrate knowledge from the production department in the product development process. A literature study and an empirical study were produced, which formed the basis for the entire work. The empirical part consisted of four semi-structured interviews of a qualitative type where all respondents come from the same company. An analysis was produced by comparing the empirical evidence with the theoretical frame of reference. The conclusion is that companies use production aspects in product development and attach great importance to adapting product development to the available production. Companies also value knowledge in production and try to create an environment that promotes knowledge sharing.
