Abstract [en]

The need for high quality inexpensive healthcare in resource-constrained hospitals is significant. This thesis has provided a summary of the donation process of medical technology accomplished by Swedish aid organisations and compared it to relevant guidelines in the field. The thesis has also compared three different free and open-source medical image-viewers for implementation at a resource-constrained hospital in Tanzania. Through interviews, emails and digital meetings it was found that two organisations: Human Bridge and Sahlgrenska International Care work similar to what WHO recommends from a donation process but more specific information about the process such as if local vendors are involved or if established procurement policies are used was not entirely found due to time constraints. Through testing of the software and by creating a model of evaluation the viewer Weasis was found to be the most relevant software for the objective due to its tools and functions for multiple modalities, user-friendliness as well as detailed documentation. In order to get a definite answer to which of the tested software is most suitable for the objective further tests with an image server are required. To better compare the process of the examined organisations to WHO’s guidelines, more information that directly corresponds to WHO’s guidelines needs to be gathered.
