Abstract [en]

The focus on sustainability has impacted all products and product development, Hiab is also attempting to do this by switching to electric power instead of the conventional engine-powered operation for its products. For this conversion a separate design is required to house the needful batteries, this thesis aims to create a solution for this requirement. The thesis presents a battery box and mounting structure that is safe, light and durable. Research was also conducted on the standards available for battery housing and all the factors affecting them. An iterative design process was undertaken generating multiple design concepts that were evaluated and refined through Finite Element Analysis simulations. Vibration, Dynamic Shock and Drop test analysis are carried out to replicate the tests mentioned in the standards. The final result is an optimized design which is 20 percent lighter than the original structure and is easier to manufacture.

Fokus på hållbarhet har påverkat all produkt- och produktutveckling, Hiab försöker också göra detta genom att byta till elkraft istället för den konventionella motordrivna driften för sina produkter. För denna omvandling krävs en separat design för att rymma de nödvändiga batterierna, denna avhandling syftar till att skapa en lösning för detta krav. Avhandlingen presenterar en batterilåda och monteringsstruktur som är säker, lätt och hållbar. Forskning kommer också att genomföras om de standarder som finns tillgängliga för batterihus och alla faktorer som påverkar dem. En iterativ designprocess genomförs för att generera flera designkoncept som utvärderades och förfinades genom Finite Element Analysis-simuleringar. Vibrations-, Dynamic Shock- och Drop-testanalyser utförs för att replikera de tester som nämns i standarderna. Slutresultatet är en optimerad design som är 20 procent lättare än den ursprungliga strukturen och är lättare att tillverka.
