Abstract [en]
The project Conversion of 37:49 investigates the possibilities of reusing an existing structure.
The area around Finnboda and Kvarnholmen has been under development for many years. Gäddviken is the next location in the area to be developed. New residences are planned and the municipality’s master plan from 2018 identifies the project area as dense urban development.
There are two buildings in the area of Gäddviken that today serves as a workshop, scenery, store room and rehearsal space for the Swedish Royal Opera and Dramaten. They are now leaving the buildings behind and It seems today that the buildings are not included in the future plans of Gäddviken. How can we re-evaluate what is slated for demolition?
In this proposal the buildings are being converted to a school of architecture. A school where the architecture stands in the background as a flexible framework for activity and opens up for workshop-based learning and unplanned synergies between students and teachers. Large un-programmed outdoor and indoor spaces can be appropriated when needed.
How materials are handled on construction sites and how materials reach the sites is a thing that could be improved. Therefore one of the buildings on the site work as a storage for material from construction sites. Material that can be used in the larger building when needed, used by students or used for the future construction projects nearby.
