Abstract [en]
The project is a proposal to transform the Stockholm Olympic Stadium into a public Garden. The garden contain, and this has been the main focus of the project, a couple of pavilions made out of brick. The Garden is the result of a study of the hand-pressed brick made by Helsingborgs Ångtegelbruk, popularized in the early 1900s by the National Romantic movement and used until the brickworks closed in 1974. Each pavilion is based on a specific work built in Helsingborg Brick. The projects have been selected from different parts of Sweden in different times. What I hope is that putting them together can show a trajectory of Swedish architecture that starts with the national romantics and continues through the 20th century, besides, but keeping a distance to the usual grand story of the rise and fall of modernism. The project took form, looking at the masques of John Hejduk, with their structures standing next to and relating to each other, like characters in a play. In the end, I think the garden turned out something inbetween a hejdukian masque, a theme park and an exhibition. Exhibiting the history of the Helsingborg brick architecture, and , I propose, in extension of Sweden in the 20th century.
