Abstract [en]
With a starting point in the early 19th century, "Sit Happens" tells the story of one evening. Through an interactive installation set in the fictional halls of Netherfield Park, the project explores the dynamics and hierarchy among a set of individuals. "Sit Happens" aims to address the question of how space, gender, and class shape how we move and interact with our surroundings.
With a significant emphasis on literature and exploration with the body, both academic and fictional work are at the core, with Sara Ahmed’s "Towards a Queer Phenomenology" and Jane Austen’s literary classic "Pride and Prejudice" serving as frameworks for the project.
With the aid of furniture pieces that represent each individual present during the evening, active participation is encouraged. The core objective of "Sit Happens" is introspection and bodily awareness, observing the effects of role exchanges or the imposition of new roles on individuals. Rather than offering solutions or definitive answers, the project seeks to investigate and symbolize hierarchical constructs through architectural methods. "Sit Happens" aims to prompt reflection on how our environment influences our behaviors, identities, and social interactions.
