Fisksätra Nya Folkets Hus

Abstract [en]

Beginning with the idea of creating a new community center in Fisksätra, this thesis investigates how to improve social qualities of a vulnerable area (Swedish: utsatt område) and how to add new designs that correspond with Fisksätra’s 70’s style architecture.

With redevelopment taking place in Fisksätra, the current community center (Swedish: Folkets Hus) will be replaced by residential buildings, leading to a need for a new site for the community center. With an approach to revive the central square of the area, two extensions are proposed: an auditorium on the rooftop of the Fisksätra shopping galleria and a workshop placed under the square, organized around an existing courtyard.

Fisksätra is a million program area located in Nacka, east part of Stockholm. It was designed in 1971 by architects Tore Forsman, Ulf Snellman and Kjell Rosenberg, with their winning proposal “Det går att gå” (English: “It is possible to walk’’). The area consists of 27 dwellings in a car free zone with large green courtyards, located in an archipelago-like landscape. It is Sweden’s most densely populated area, characterized by a multicultural population.
