Abstract [en]

Gamla Ullevi was built only 15 years ago but the users of the stadium agree that it’s not good enough. The main issue is that it’s too small. IFK Göteborg is historically the second biggest men’s football club in Sweden. To make them a realistic contender in the long run, there are a lot of voices mentioning a bigger stadium as one of the ingredients. At the same time women’s football is growing exponentially. IFK Göteborg has a women’s team that’s about to advance to the top division and a new arena would give them the best possible conditions for success.

Gamla Ullevi is also the home of the Swedish women’s national team. A new modern and bigger stadium would show the world that we as a country are being serious about giving women’s football the same conditions as the men’s. It would give them the possibility to sell out the stadium at an attendance that will match the growing interest of women’s football.

In this degree project, Ullevi Strand is proposed as a new stadium. The name of the project is coming from a podcast called BBpodden and the maximum capacity is planned to be 25 000.
