This chapter initially summarizes the goals for a variety of collective house forms developed in Sweden, as have been presented in research during the 80s. The possible biases and other theoretical problems in this type of research are then discussed. The main focus is on the application of an integrative methodology applied in one of the most comprehensive research projects. Nine different methods for the study of nine different aspects of collective housing are discussed. Among the nine methods are: analysis of municipal and other official documents; analysis of minutes, proposals and reports from residents’ associations; key person interviewing; inquiries with structured questionnaires; group interviewing; observation; participant observation; and analysis of drawings.
