Learning is something we keep doing our entire lives. One of the places where a large part of that learning takes place after school is in the workplace. Whether it is learning new methodology, reading up on relevant subjects or, as is center to this thesis, learning through online means. The usage of online learning materials in the workplace has increased over the years and shows no signs of stopping. This thesis investigates the challenges and shortcomings of this online learning material at an international company with one of its branches located in Stockholm. We also investigate the motivations behind the usage of this online learning material, as well as the requirements that need to be fulfilled for the acceptance of new technology at the company. Data is gathered through interviews and subsequent thematic analysis, resulting in emergent themes. These themes paint the key challenges in the online learning material in the lack of face-to-face learning, the lack of practical application of the online learning material, as well as the lack of cultural adaptation of the globally utilized online learning material. At the same time the motivation behind the usage of the online learning material seems to be the flexibility it provides, both when considering time and space. The requirements for the acceptance of new technology is discovered to be rooted in the perceived usefulness of the new technology and especially in the perceived ease of use of the technology. Where the online learning material today does a good job on presenting the perceived usefulness of the technology, it does a poorer job on presenting the perceived ease of use. This thesis points out the importance behind investigating solutions for these challenges and shortcomings with the online learning material and the technology acceptance, without compromising the current strengths and motivations behind the usage of the online learning material. Lastly it proposes further research into how this online learning material can be combined with existing or non-existing learning material that is not online today.

Lärande är något vi fortsätter med hela våra liv. En plats där en stor del av detta lärande äger rum efter att vi är klara med skolan är på arbetsplatsen. Oavsett om det handlar om att lära sig nya metoder, läsa på om relevanta ämnen eller, som är centrum för denna avhandling, att lära sig genom lärarmaterial online. Användningen av läromedel online har ökat på arbetsplatsen och ser inte ut att avta. Denna avhandling undersöker utmaningarna och bristerna hos dessa online-läromedel på ett internationellt företag med en av sina filialer belägen i Stockholm. Den undersöker också motiven bakom användningen av dessa online-läromedel, och även de krav som måste uppfyllas för acceptansen av ny teknik hos de anställda på företaget. Data samlas in genom intervjuer och efterföljande tematisk analys. De resulterande teman målar upp de huvudsakliga utmaningarna i online-läromedlen såsom brist på lärande ansikte mot ansikte, brist på praktisk tillämpning av de online baserade läromedlen samt brist på kulturell anpassning av globalt använda online-läromedel. Samtidigt verkar motivationen bakom användningen av materialet vara den flexibilitet det ger, både när det gäller tid och plats. Kraven för acceptansen av ny teknik upptäcks vara förankrade i den uppfattade användbarheten hos den nya tekniken samt framförallt den uppfattade användarvänligheten hos tekniken. Materialet gör idag ett bra jobb med att presentera den uppfattade användbarheten hos tekniken, gör det en sämre insats med att presentera den uppfattade användarvänligheten. Denna avhandling pekar på vikten av att undersöka lösningar för dessa utmaningar och brister med online-läromaterialet och teknikacceptansen, utan att kompromissa med de nuvarande styrkorna och motiven bakom användningen av online-läromaterialet. Slutligen föreslås ytterligare forskning om hur detta online-läromaterial kan kombineras med befintligt eller icke-befintligt läromaterial som inte är online idag.
