The aim of the project is to revitalize a neglected port area located in Nynäshamn. The project includes a
number of initiatives that focus on developing the physical environment around the harbor, creating an
improved movement environment with piers and walking paths. Developing the port establishes a social
space where residents can forge interpersonal bonds, cultivate common interests and strengthen their
collective identity. Central to the project's success is community, engagement, participation and
education. The aim is to cultivate a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable port community. By enlivening the
physical landscape and fostering a sense of belonging, the project aims to not only improve the quality of
life for local residents, but also attract visitors, tourists and stimulate economic growth in the region.
Inspired by this vision, a new cultural center will be established in Nynäshamn. The building's position in
the water, right at the edge of the harbor, offers an inspiring environment for cultural exchange and
artistic expression. The project also includes an arts and crafts house located opposite, creating
opportunities for collaboration and exchange of ideas between the two. To make room for bicycles and
plants, the parking lot located at the port and terminal lock has been moved. Breaking up the asphalt and
creating green areas with plants and trees will enhance both the attractiveness of the port and the
accessibility of the arts and crafts houses that are there today. The vegetation also contributes to water
retention and stormwater, making the area more sustainable and resilient to climate change. The new
design with bicycle parking and plantings makes the area both more inviting and environmentally friendly,
which bene昀椀ts both residents and visitors.
After conducting interviews at the Nynäshamn campus, which resulted in an understanding of the
situation today with limited space for students, there are study places, a library and the possibility of
professional practice for those who are studying cooking. Horticulture students can develop and maintain
the new park. The location near commuter trains and buses is advantageous for communication to and
from the site.
Surrounding areas such as piers and ramps around the building will provide recreational opportunities
and enhance people's outdoor experiences. The site itself has more potential which is currently
untapped. Residents and visitors coming together to appreciate art, music and community events
contributes to life and cultural enrichment.
