The new museum is a transformation of an existing parking house in the center of Nynäshamn, by the square Stadshusplatsen, adjacent to the municipal hall, the People's House and a popular pedestrian street. The building aims to create a center that combines Nynäshamns history, present and future through creative work and dialogue between the old and the new.

By making the archive available for the public through exhibitions, collections, lectures and workshops the inhabitants can get a better understanding of why the municipality looks the way it does and in what direction it's evolving. The collections consist among other things of pictures, objects and literature. The objects are collected from the public in the area on request by the museum and as spontaneous gift suggestions from the inhabitants.

The restoration of the objects happens in the workshops, but the premises are also open to the public through art and restoration courses. Repairing, restoring and giving new life to objects is a way of getting away from the throwaway society and working towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Det nya stadsmuseet är en transformation av P-huset Valkyrian som ligger centralt i Nynäshamn kring ett av de viktigaste torgen, Stadshusplatsen, med bland annat kommunhuset, Folkets hus och en populär gågata igenom. Syftet med Tidsdialogen Nynäshamn är att skapa en mötesplats som kombinerar Nynäshamns historia med dess nutid och framtid, genom ett kreativt arbete och dialog mellan det gamla och det nya.

Genom att tillgängliggöra Nynäshamns bildarkiv för allmänheten i form av utställningar, samlingar, föreläsningar och workshops kan invånarna i staden förstå sig bättre på varför staden ser ut som den gör och i vilken riktning den utvecklas i. Samlingarna består av bland annat bilder, föremål och litteratur. Föremålen samlas in från allmänheten dels på förfrågan av museet som undersöker ett visst historiskt skede för tillfället, dels på spontana förslag på gåvor.

I byggnadens verkstäder sker restaurering av föremålen, men lokalerna används även för kurser och går att boka om man som privatperson vill laga eller skapa nya föremål. Hantverksamheten är ett sätt att komma närmare ett hållbart samhället, då man genom att reparera, restaurera och ge nytt liv till sina föremål kan minska slit- och slängsamhället.
