The project I have undertaken for my bachelor's degree has been dubbed the "House of the Potato," and is a collective farming initiative that serves as a community center. It is situated in Ösmo, which is located within the Nynäshamn municipality. From the outset, I was drawn to the idea of working with agriculture in some capacity, as the food industry is a crucial aspect of the local economy and supplies the area. Additionally, I found it to be an intriguing topic to explore from an agricultural perspective in densely populated regions. Ösmo was an ideal location for this project due to its proximity to Stockholm, its abundance of farmland, and its convenient access to the city of Nynäshamn via both the commuter train and the motorway. With the pressing issue of climate change, which necessitates a green transition, sustainable agriculture and the transformation of food production, as well as the reduction of unnecessary and lengthy transportation, are not just relevant, but essential. Moreover, I have chosen to address additional challenges such as public health and community engagement, as digitalization has resulted in people spending less time socializing and moving around. My proposal involves the establishment of a collective cultivation operation that will make Ösmo, a largely urban area, self-sufficient when it comes to potato production. This initiative will also include a citizen's house, which will serve as a hub for practical activities like storing and handling the produce, as well as a venue for socializing and fostering a sense of community among residents.

Mitt kandidatprojekt har fått heta potatisens hus, och är ett medborgarhus och en kollektiv odlingsverksamhet. Projektet är beläget i Ösmo i Nynäshamns kommun. Redan i projektets tidigare skede bestämde jag mig för att jag på något sätt ville arbeta med jordbruket. Detta då livsmedelsindustrin är en viktig del av försörjningen i kommunen. Vidare kändes detta som en intressant fråga att diskutera ur perspektivet kring jordbruk beläget i närheten av tät bebyggelse. Ösmo blev en perfekt plats för detta dels då det här finns mycket odlingsmark kring tätorten men också för att Ösmo är beläget så nära storstaden Stockholm. Ösmo är en ort med bra kommunikation till både Nynäshamns stad och Stockholm via både pendeltåget och motorvägen. I och med de klimatutmaningar som vi står inför där det krävs att vi gör en grön omställning känns just hållbart jordbruk och en omställning av livsmedelsproduktionen och dess onödiga och långa transporter som inte bara relevant utan även direkt nödvändigt. Ytterligare utmaningar jag har valt att lyfta i mitt projekt är folkhälsan och samhörighet. Detta då digitaliseringen lett till att folk är ute mindre, träffar mindre folk både i arbetet och privat och rör sig mindre. Mitt förslag är ett experimentellt förslag med en kollektiv odlingsverksamhet, där Ösmo som tätort blir helt självförsörjande när det kommer till potatisodling. Mitt medborgarhus knutet till denna odlingsverksamhet där både de rent praktiska som hantering och lagring får plats, men även ett nytt spännande hus där folk kan mötas och känna gemenskap till varandra och till ett av våra allra mest populära livsmedel.
