Abstract [en]

The question of this project has been about the possibility to build and live in your own home without lots of knowledge of architecture or how to build a house, and without huge economic means, space or time. It´s also about the desire and possibility to live in the city, while at the same time not giving up that dream of building your own home. These are the main reasons for a city perspective in this project, the lack of housing is another. I´ve chosen to work with Stockholm Municipality, but the concept could be applied on any other urban, and actually also rural, place in Sweden.

I´ve been working on a modular design system for a 30 sqm home that could be easily self built with detailed construction drawings as instructions. 30 sqm that meets all the requirements to be a permanent residence, meeting the rules of accessibility, u-values, roomheights etc.A home that, because of it´s modularity in design, can be adapted to fit the need of many, as well as sites of different conditions. Thanks to it´s small footprint the amount of material used is reduced, being cautious of the resources at hand and leaving more soil untouched. It´s also making it affordeble, moveble and possible to place on small plots of land within the city without affecting the feeling of density between buildings, while at the same time contributing with self-built housing and new ways of living in the city.
