Abstract [en]

This paper investigates the feasibility of DVB-H deployment on existing wireless infrastructure for analogue/digital broadcasting and cellular systems. The considered strategies assume using only the broadcasting or cellular infrastructure separately and the case when both can be used jointly. The implementation strategies are compared in terms of required transmission power, achievable coverage and number of sites needed. Based on these figures, speculations on the implementation cost of each strategy have been made. The numerical results show that indoor coverage of DVB-H demands very large transmission powers. Moreover, if cellular sites are employed as a complement to broadcasting infrastructure, the required number of them is large even if power levels above 30 dBW are employed.
