Confidence in RAB Transmission Characteristics on WCDMA

Abstract [en]

To obtain statistical confidence in Block Error Ratio (BLER) measurements on the receiver, a certain measurement time is required. This measurement time will vary depending on the BLER measured. The measurement time is a very critical parameter due to the heavy load of tests to perform and must therefore be minimized.This thesis considers receiver sensitivity and among several test cases during receiver sensitivity a test case, RAB Transmission Characteristics, is chosen. A large number of BLER measurements and characterization of BLER in (%) to uncertainty in dB for the test case, RAB Transmission Characteristics are done. For 0.7 % BLER requirement, 5 minutes measurement time is recommended. However, a measurement time more than 5 minutes may be required, if the required BLER is less than the above requirements.When performing the BLER measurements there is also another parameter, besides from statistical confidence that will cause the result to vary. This is the measurement uncertainty caused by the RF instruments and the RF switch- and filter boxes. The calculation of measurement uncertainty for the test case is done. The expanded combined standard uncertainty during calibration in relation to C/I is 0.33 dB while measurement in relation to C/I is 0.54 dB. The total expanded combined standard uncertainty in relation to C/I is 0.64 dB.2.
