Performance of MMSE Linear Equalizer and Decision Feedback Equalizer in Single-Frequency Simulcast Environment

Abstract [en]

The performance of a minimum mean-squared error linear equalizer and a decision feedback equalizer operating in a single-frequency simulcast environment with two transmitters exposed to time-dispersive slowly fading channels is discussed. Comparisons are made with a multifrequency simulcast system. The performance is given in terms of an upper bound on the expected bit-error probability for a quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) system perturbed by additive white gaussian noise (AWGN). The performance for single-frequency simulcasting is found to improve with increased delay between the simulcast signals up to several symbol durations where no more gain is achieved. Results show that the performance is improved if the available power is distributed among signals from several transmitters by means of simulcasting.
