Abstract [en]

Broadband multimedia aeronautical mobile communications will let future airlinershave in-flight services similar to those of the terrestrial systems. Some systems have alreadybeen developed and are nowadays in use in several parts of the world. These new systemssuch as Connexion By Boeing® use proprietary systems based on satellite technology toprovide the users with communications in a plane.

The DVB-RCS standard for satellite broadband communications is focused onenabling equipments from different manufacturers to work together. The goal of the standardis to lower the costs by creating high-volume manufacturing of common system components

My internship took place in EADS Astrium in the year 2004, and was dedicated to thestudy of analysing the use of the DVB-RCS standard for the return link and to identify thecritical points and the possible modification of the standard for mobile systems inaeronautical environment.
