Abstract [en]

In a general context where the importance paid to Sustainable Development is growing, the Frenchpostal operator, La Poste, decided to demonstrate its commitments. The recent SustainableDevelopment Directorate represents the official body in charge of the application of the concepts ofSustainable Development. When describing the history and the notion of Sustainable Development, the study shows the relativeparadox that its implementation at company level represents. Indeed, the idea of SustainableDevelopment emerged due to environmental considerations whereas the driving forces for companiesstill are economical performances. This report deals with the practical example of one of the biggest public service providers in France. Itpresents a description of the main environmental problems that La Poste is facing as well as theimportant achievements that have already been made. From the final analysis, several conclusions can be drawn. The implementation of an efficientreporting system is clearly identified as the main future challenge for La Poste in its work forSustainable Development. Recommendations are made with regard to the data and indicators thatwould be required. The study shows that the actual work of the SDD is still mainly performed at a corporate level and thata crucial step will be the successful field application of the designed strategy and related projects.
