A single family house reproduced in large numbers all over the country, an exclusive headquarter of Sweden's central bank in the very centre of Stockholm, and Ararat, an experimental exhibition and visionary manifestation of society's condition in general. These are three examples, and three very different ways of describing architecture in Sweden in the 1970s - the commercial mass-housing, the one of a kind architectural project and the artistic experiment that crosses boundaries. The paper presents questions of evaluation and selection of historical events from an ongoing work with a thesis concerning new orientations on the Swedish architectural scene in the 1970s. It also touches briefly on the specific problems concerning the writing of the history of the recent past.
